The growth of tourism on the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts of Turkey has practically exploded in the last decade, but very little tourism has come to the Black Sea coast. Sit in any bar or restaurant on the south coast of Turkey and you'll hear tourists from western Europe complain about the high temperatures during July and August. It makes one wonder why they return year after year during these months if they feel it is too bloody hot. Other complaints voiced are that the invasion of millions of foreigners is ruining the look and feel of traditional Turkish destinations like Dalyan, Fethiye, Marmaris and others as well as hiking food and accommodation prices up radically. An ideal solution to these concerns is to book a holiday to a Black Sea holiday destination where the temperatures are more comfortable, prices lower, and the traditional culture has not been so widely influenced by the massive influx of tourists. Giresun is ideal for anyone that desires to spend their holiday at a beach destination with unspoiled Turkish tradition, cuisine, natural beauty and a more quiet and relaxed ambiance than the south coast resorts like Marmaris and Bodrum.
Giresun is one of the numerous coastal towns on the Black Sea coast that has a beautiful beach, bars and restaurants and accommodation. Like many other Black Sea coast destinations, Giresun has pine clad forests rising up behind it with pristine plateaus offering remarkable scenery and wildlife in abundance. These areas are perfect for day-treks and during the summer on these high mountain plateaus at Bektaş, Kümbet and Kulakkaya visitors can enjoy walking, hiking, or bicycling in the cool pure mountain air. Part of the Aksu Art and Culture Festival is a ceremony called Hamza Taşı, a tradition dating back thousands of years, performed on Giresun Island just a little over a kilometer off the beach from Giresun. There is also a well preserved castle in the city center as well as the old Ottoman-style houses of the Zeytinlik district of Giresun. Other sites to see include the Hacı Hüseyin Mosque, Kale Mosque, Seyyid-i Vakkas Tomb and the Mausoleum of Topal Osman.
